Lake Erie - the world's 13th largest natural lake is the most southern of the five Great Lakes. It is bounded on the north by Ontario, on the south by the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, and on the west by the state of Michigan.

With a maximum depth of 62 feet, it is the only major body of water in the province of Ontario who's bottom is completely above sea level.

Lake Erie - Nature's Destination

Those who love being on the water are born with a passion for the outdoors and nature lovers consider Lake Erie a fascinating destination for their seasonal voyages. Boasting a wide variety of plants and natural habitat of wildlife, Lake Erie is home to many species rarely found anywhere else. Primarily due to the warm climate, hundreds of species of birds and butterflies can be found migrating across Lake Erie during the spring and fall seasons. Point Pelee National Park (the southernmost point on Canada's mainland) offers the best opportunity to catch a view of these annual events.

As plentiful as it is, this region has much more than natural wildlife to offer. As with all the Great Lakes, Lake Erie is a wonderland of beaches, islands, thriving cities and tranquil hideaways. Consider this summer paradise a place worth exploring many times over.

Visit the Bass Islands, three American islands in the western half of Lake Erie. Located north of Sandusky, OH and south of Pelee Island, ON. This popular summertime tourist stop hosts the annual Inter-Lake Yachting Association regatta, known as Bay Week.

Paradise and first-class amenities await you in Sandusky, OH. Cruise to within walking distance of the Cedar Point amusement park which houses one of the largest marinas on the Great Lakes.

The Tomato Capital of Canada, Leamington, ON celebrates the harvest of the most perfect fruit that exists...with a pageant, parade, live stage shows, food booths, a craft sale, classic car show, festival beer tent, steak fry, golf tournament and of course, the world famous Tomato Stomp Contest!

For those who enjoy the sizzle of fresh pan-fried fish, the western end of Lake Erie is the Walleye Capital of the World. It produces more walleye per hectare than any other lake in the world. Because of its southern location and the shallow and warm waters, Lake Erie is the most biologically productive of the five Great Lakes resulting in more fish being produced each year for human consumption than the remaining Great Lakes combined.
