Lake
Huron - The name of the lake is derived
from early French
explorers who named it
based on the Huron people
inhabiting the region.
Bordered on the west by Michigan and on the east by Ontario,
Lake Huron is the second largest of the five Great Lakes.
Enjoy
breath-taking scenery as you cruise Georgian Bay,
the North Channel past Manitoulin Island (the
world's largest
fresh-water island) or
beneath the Mackinac Bridge towards Lake Michigan.

Lake Huron - A Boaters Paradise
The north shore of Lake Huron, more precisely the North Channel, has been declared by many recreational and avid sailing enthusiasts as one of the world's most scenic cruising destinations. Sheltered from the rest of Lake Huron by Manitoulin Island, this boater's paradise offers a real rugged beauty that is decorated with countless bays, coves,
islands and isolated retreats.
Georgian Bay
also boasts some of the best cruising anywhere.
Thousands of boaters from around the world come to visit
the region every year. With so many picturesque
communities lining the waterfront and even more
limestone islands scattered throughout the world's
largest fresh-water bay, it's a job in itself trying to
decide which area you want to visit first. In fact, it
has been said that it would take more than a decade to
see all of the 30,000 + islands.

| Being the fifth largest lake in the world, Lake Huron's shoreline is home to endless sandy beaches that provide
limitless choices in
finding the perfect setting to relax under the summer sun.
Along with the
glorious beaches,
Huron's southern shores also offer many activities and amenities for transient boaters.
Fine and casual
dining, active
nightlife and exciting
summer festivals
attract boaters to
this destination. More
great seasonal events,
award-winning wineries
and big city
attractions invite
visitors closer to the
Michigan side of Lake
Huron and the Lake St.
Clair region. Local
boaters consider Lake
St. Clair the sixth
Great Lake. Not
because of its size
(only 624 square
miles) but rather for
it's location and
popularity for
cruising and fishing.

|
|
| With
a lake of this size, the fun and
excitement is endless both on and
off the water. Plan your travels
carefully as you may want to take
some time and enjoy your days
cruising, swimming, wakeboarding,
sailing, canoeing, kayaking, scuba
diving or fishing the sparkling
blue waters. Or maybe you would
just rather take a short stroll
from a local marina and peruse the
waterfront shops and boutiques in
the many scenic communities?

Along with Cockburn Island, Drummond Island
and St. Joseph Island to the west, they
