Gem Beach Marina on Lake Erie - Lakeside, OH - posted
October 27th, 2009
We needed a change in
atmosphere from our previous marina. We were looking
for a better location, more amenities, and more to
do. Upon visiting Gem Beach we were greeted by
friendly staff and a fun atmosphere. They answered
all of our many many questions and took the time to
give us options for dockage. The season was great
and the people (staff and fellow boaters) couldn't
have been nicer. We enjoyed the live weekend
entertainment, bar & restaurant, and marine
accessories store. There were activities sponsored
by the marina like the 4th of July golf cart parade
that was hilarious and the end of year band and BBQ.
We also had a great time getting to know our dock
mates. We made trips together to the islands as well
as just had cookouts on the dock. We are looking
forward to our 3rd season at Gem Beach and don't
plan to leave any time soon!

Gem Beach Marina on Lake Erie - Lakeside, OH - posted
July 15th, 2009
The
excitement of launching a new (new to us) boat
changed quickly to chaos due to the management of
this marina. Due to the size and width of the boat
our choices of marinas were limited. We chose a
marina in the harbor where I grew up because, prior
to this incident, I have always found other boaters
and those around boats in this area to be kind
people. Due to an engine issue we arrived at the
marina after the office hours, we were given vague
instructions of where to dock since there would be
no one there when we arrived. The dock we were
directed to was 20 feet too short, so we stayed at
the gas dock overnight. In the morning, while doing
system checks and preparing for a pump out we
discovered a cracked hose. The fuel dock personnel
informed us that both he and the office staff would
be leaving in ten minutes (3 hours early), he would
not wait for the pump-out and we needed to
immediately move the boat to a regular dock.
Unfortunately, they changed the dock number where we
should go so many times that we weren't even sure
where to go. We immediately stopped the repair crew,
did not get to pump out the very smelly boat and
moved the boat. By this time, the office staff had
left for the day (2pm vs. 5pm). We were still not
even sure we would fit in the assigned dock, but
they were gone. Now we are in the dock, in a smelly
boat and have no way to pump it out. My husband got
up early the next morning to get parts, leaving me
to sleep in on my birthday with the children. Upon
exiting the restrooms with my three young children,
I was asked if that was my boat. Upon indicating
that it was, the female, Ginger, and the man with
her summarily told us that we needed to get out of
the marina by noon that day. When I inquired to the
problem, she indicated that we had broken the rules.
Rules I asked? She said yes, you did not complete
the paperwork and we do not allow boats to dock
without paying. I was completely dumbfounded,
indicated that it was certainly an oversight. |
